Breaking The Cycles By Breaking Away From Family & Friends with Ruben Alvarez - Entrepreneur, Branding Expert & Author, Ep #136

I met Ruben when he reached out to me after hearing about the series we are doing, Latin Talks. He convinced me that it was essential we bring the event to El Paso, where he is based, and I’m excited for you to hear his perspective as a business owner and leader in his community.

Ruben Alvarez is the founder and co-owner of The Marketing Hunters, a Marketing / Advertising Agency based out of Surprise, Arizona and El Paso, Texas. He started this company because he saw a giant need to help businesses grow through digital marketing and better branding.

For the last 9 years, they have worked with B2B and B2C customers that allow them to understand their sales model and what will allow it to reach more clients.  Whether you work with distributors, installers, dealers, or go straight to market, they know exactly what will work for each different consumer.

Why education is essential for local communities to receive

I asked Ruben why he saw the value in bringing an educational event like Latin Talks to El Paso and he shared that what his city has been lacking is the education that we advocate for. There is a rich Latino community in the metropolitan area around El Paso, and many natives to the community come back to work and start businesses there after going somewhere else for school. However, the access to continuing education after their formal education ends is a big miss and Ruben knows from experience how powerful this is. His own transition from entrepreneur to business owner has been a big mindset shift that he wants to share with more of his community.

How to take care of your energy

When I asked Ruben how he protects his energy as a business owner, family man, and community leader, he said that he has to be mindful about who he surrounds himself with. Sometimes that means different friends, not family members, and regularly meeting new people. He also has learned about using frequencies to regulate his energy through his ears. He spends a few minutes everyday listening to frequencies that calm and ground him. Even though he doesn’t expect his close friends or family to understand some of his practices, he prioritizes what he knows works for him. He also invests in reading and learning new skills daily. The core 3 ways to protect your energy for Ruben are being around the right people, getting on the right frequency, and learning the right skills on a daily basis.

The difference between Latin Talks and other events

The value of hosting events like Latin Talks in cities with big Latino communities is centered on communities seeing themselves in their local leaders. For example, in El Paso, we have local political leaders, business owners, musicians, and more speaking on stage so that the audience will see that the successful leaders in their own community are relatable and have been through similar experiences. This is a big difference from standard business or self-development events that are focused on sales, un-relatable examples, or speakers who aren’t connected to the local community. The in person nature of these events also brings a powerful quality that can’t be matched with online events, which is why Ruben is as passionate as I am about this series.
